Today is Election Day and I decided to be at the polling place early to escape the 37 degree centigrade predicted heat and of course the crowd. This gave me much time to observe the Filipino on election day. I just couldnt help but relate my observations to the different biochemical individualities (biotypes) based on the characteristic traits and tendencies.
Dr. Carl Pfeiffer and Dr. William Walsh wrote about these biotypes but taught us that these are not diagnostic, but rather helpful guidelines. There could also be a combination of biotypes in each person. The biotyping gives us an idea of the possible biochemical imbalance going on and thus together with their laboratory tests determine the best nutrient program for the person. The traits and symptoms become more bothersome as the imbalance becomes more severe. Otherwise, the trait just becomes a tendency, not needing medication and which actually could be helpful if not manifesting to the extreme. Eva Edelman wrote two very helpful volumes on Nutritional Approaches which includes several pages on these biotypes. While waiting, I had the opportunity to review this information further which we often discuss with our patients.
There seems to be 3 major biotypes.
First , are those whose whole blood histamine is high. Dr. Pfeiffer referred to this condition as Histadelia. Histamine is a brain neurotransmitter affecting mood and thought processes. Further studies by Dr. Walsh showed that the histadelics are also undermethylators which seems to be the more primary brain imbalance.
Methylation is a major process in the regulation of histamine. Chronic undermethylation can lead to high levels of histamine.
The proper methylation/folate ratio is critical to the formation of BH4 (tetrahydrobiopterin) which is a coenzyme important in the formation of major neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Thus, managing methylation is key to the restoration of biochemical balance for optimum brain function.
Let us go back to the interesting part of this biotyping, that is the characteristic traits and tendencies.
Undermethylators or histadelics tend to be organized, highly motivated, perfectionist. They are usually early for their appointments. It is important for them that everything is in order, at times even becoming obsessive compulsive.
The second biotype, are those who have low histamine referred to as Histapenia and are Overmethylators. The overmethylators tend to be underachieving, lacking effort, anxious but with high artistic abilities and interest.
The third biotype, are those with excess urinary kryptopyrrholes, or pyroluric. Pyrrholes are used in forming porphyrin needed for the hemoglobin or the oxygen carrying molecule of the blood. However, they become problematic if accumulated in excess. The pyroluric tend to have uncontrollable tempers and rage, mood swings and have great problems handling stress.
Back to the polls.
The first room was very well organized. The support staff organized the voters in a holding place or waiting room making sure that everyone followed the line. The chairman made sure that everyone followed the system. Voting started on time so voters happily finished early. This room is the stronghold of undermethylators, the best place to be on election day.
The second room was overflowing with people now reaching the corridors. A lady came forward with a loud voice because the support staff apparently was not managing the line. An irate man joined the line, accusing the lady infront of going ahead of him. Possibly, the headquarters for the pyrrholes. Beware.
The third room started slowly a little over 7am with the team still trying to organize themselves. Voters were told to go to the holding area but no one was managing the line. The staff called in the first 10, many did not come from the holding area – they suddenly appeared from nowhere. When this was pointed out to her she did not do anything to rectify the situation. Oh no, overmethylators. Too bad, if you were in this room.
Just observing, I would say as a culture we may need a big dose of the undermethylators’ character of being more compulsive about order and doing things correctly. It seems we tend more towards being underachieving like the overmethylators or pyroluric with hot tempers during periods of stress. If we field in more undermethylators, the precint will be prepared way ahead of time. The lines managed and the system of voting well thought through prior to the actual day.
The automated system is perfect for undermethylators. The ovals will be encircled carefully and perfectly, definitely not going over the thin red line and not allowing the ink to blot through the ballot. The undermethylators will make sure that after the thumbmark, they will make sure to wipe their thumbs with tissue so as not to stain the ballot. After voting, a text will be sent to all to make sure to do this. They will be bringing a bag with either a handkerchief or a face towel, to keep on wiping the anxiety sweat from the palms lest they drop on this precious ballot. They will have a list of candidates to vote with them, prepared days ahead. And when they insert their ballot into the PCOS, they will make sure it hits the target. And of course, the undermethylators will arrive much earlier , even ahead of the election officials. Perfect.
This automated election could just have been the shot of perfectionism and order we badly need as a culture.
How many as a basic personal value will uphold punctuality, perfectionism, order in the line, doing things correctly, thinking within a system — without the need for a staff to tell us to do so? Maybe we are still learning basic honesty not to sell our votes or buy votes and the dignity of making free choice and respecting the free choice of others.
Are we needing biochemical and nutrient balancing as a culture?
Perhaps some good nutrients for the physical brain and body is in order. The physical form being the vessel for what is non physical. The non-physical then kicks in as we daily choose the truth and the good, in full freedom and in full consciousness.
Yes, we all need more of these election days of Free Choice (some more free than others ), its good for our biotype.
