Our children always want to be taller, but often the problem is also because they are not able to eat what could make them healthier and therefore taller.
We have been able to determine the zinc levels in children who are endlessly asking us to make them grow taller, and for some of these children we have indeed found that their zinc levels are below optimum.
In the book, Herbs and Natural Supplements by Lesley Braun and Mark Cohen published in 2008, one can find valuable basic information on zinc. Zinc is considered an essential trace element and a component of over 300 metalloenzymes. Thus, it is involved in vital chemical processes such as protein digestion, bone metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism and protein and DNA synthesis. It is essential for growth and development, brain function, and optimum immune function. The extensive research of Dr. William Walsh on autism elucidated the importance of proteins called metallothienins in brain , immune and digestive functions. And metallothienin synthesis is dependent on a so called preloading of zinc atoms.
Zinc may be one key nutrient that could just make our children taller and prouder. But at the same time, zinc is also helping them with their digestion and nutrient absorption. It works on the immune system too, thats why the frequent colds may be less bothersome. More important, because zinc is present in high levels in the brain centers for learning, memory and behavior mothers have noticed that their children are doing better in school.
Our children always want to be taller. We also want to unlock the loving genius in them.
It may be worthwhile to look into zinc supplementation for children who need it. However, I recommend determining the baseline blood zinc levels first especially for children. And although zinc is considered generally safe, it is best to work with a nutritionally trained physician in determing the proper dosage and manner of administration of zinc for children.
What does zinc truly represent? Why are we needing to look at this trace metal in our present time?
